• Dancing

Dancing is a way to connect the self to body and earth. From an early age, humans discover their world and identity through exploration, play, and movement. We become present by engaging our senses in relation to our environment, and dancing then becomes a practice of relating and embodying. Since projectLIMB’s creation in 2004, the organization has used the universality of dance to connect with the world and individuals around the globe.

  • Freediving

Freediving is diving underwater while holding your breath without relying on equipment. Freedivers adapt their bodies to high levels of carbon dioxide and increased atmospheric pressure. In contrast, the experience of movement underwater is one of weightlessness in which the effects of gravity are suspended for the length of your breath hold. Combining dance + freediving (underwater dance) has been the focus of projectLIMB since 2014.

Workshops + Teachings 2024

3-17 March - Contact and Flow Festival in Bacalar, Mexico

Contact and Flow is a land and water contact improvisation festival where participants explore movement from somatic practices, contact with nature, and aquatic practices, such as deep apnea. With a duration of 14 days, we facilitate an immersive space with technical sessions, improvisation explorations, jams, and journeys in nature.

What People Are Saying

I feel such a sense of joy in the experience of the workshop, of renewed energy, and a sense of connection with other beings and the world. I also want to say that Gabriel and Meredith were EXCELLENT instructors. I clung to every direction and found them to be clear and useful and considerate, gleaned of real, practical experience. I felt very safe and supported in the workshop. While I feel like the workshop was a new adventure it also feels like the start of a life passion and I can't wait to do more, to come back to Sicily.”

Jody, Dancer/Choreographer + July ‘22 Workshop Participant

“The peace, the freedom, the silky nature of the underwater environment, the safe solitude combined with the connection with another person, the supportive nature of the sea, and surrendering to its hug, are all experiences that I have never come across with such intensity and in combination. Unlike freediving, there is no expectation, there are no rules, and this allows for full relaxation and exploration. Having not danced for many years, I didn't realize I still could, and yet I was able to discover this all but forgotten expression within myself. Gabriel is a gifted teacher: calm, supportive, encouraging, gentle and also wildly talented. He has an innate way of ensuring you feel safe, and this can help you to discover parts of yourself you didn't realize were there.”

Louisa, AIDA Saftey Team/Freediver + projectLIMB Collaborator

“Working with Meredith has been encouraging and healing. I’m not trying to become a professional dancer; I just want to move my body differently, and Meredith has taken that motivation and made it blossom by sharing her vast knowledge and experience of the body’s many workings, all while being incredibly welcoming, encouraging, and creative.”

Mallory, Adult Dance Student

“I had the opportunity to participate in an introductory, underwater course with Gabriel on the stunning north coast of Sicily. It was one of the most challenging and fulfilling workshops I've ever taken: an opportunity to explore the edges of my physical and emotional comfort in a safe and supportive (not to mention, utterly beautiful) environment. I arrived with no experience diving to depth or practicing apnea and wasn't certain if I could get through the course. Yet after only six days, under the expert guidance of Gabe and help of my training partner, Meredith, I was able to swim to a depth of 12 meters and hold my breath for 2 minutes. More importantly, the equalization and breath-hold techniques I learned transformed my relationship with my body and the water. I discovered I was capable of relaxing, even finding joy, in the face of discomfort. I had never felt so peaceful and completely free in the water as I had during the workshop. Highly recommended!”

Joseph, Visual Artist + AIDA II participant

“I am a dancer and grew up swimming in the rivers of California but just started free diving this past year. Gabriel's approach to breath holding is very somatic and he adapts his teaching and tips to each person and their body and where they are at. I felt he was knowledgeable and was also consistently curious and excited about the topics we were focusing on, which made for an inspiring learning environment. I left the experience feeling nourished and with more technical skills to continue developing my practice.”
